01 · Before you shoot

  • Camera body, battery full + sparesA wide bracket at several EV steps (EV, Exposure Value, is the unit exposure changes are measured in here, ±1 EV means one stop brighter or darker), repeated across a session, adds up in shutter actuations and battery drain
  • Sturdy tripodNot strictly required - most HDR software can auto-align a handheld bracket - but a locked-off tripod gives the cleanest possible merge and removes one variable entirely, especially worth it for the wider brackets an interior scene needs
  • Remote shutter release or intervalometerOptional if your camera's built-in Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB) mode covers the frame count you need (setup step 4) - still useful for removing shutter-press shake, or for a bracket wider than your camera's AEB supports
