Puffin Among the Campion
From £32.00
Another puffin arrives with fish for its burrow, this time framed against the sea campion and thrift that carpet the Farnes in early summer, proof there's more to the islands' colour than just the birds.

Atlantic puffins spend most of the year far out at sea, only coming ashore to breed in dense cliff-top and island colonies each spring and early summer. The Farne Islands off the Northumberland coast hold one of the UK's largest colonies, with tens of thousands of pairs nesting in rabbit burrows and rock crevices; an adult can carry a dozen or more sand eels at once, wedged crosswise in that famously colourful bill.
