Milky Way Over Ribblehead Viaduct
From £32.00
The Milky Way rises directly above Ribblehead Viaduct's arches, dark enough here in the Yorkshire Dales for the galaxy's core to stand out against a genuinely black sky. The viaduct's silhouette gives the scale away, this is a serious piece of Victorian engineering, dwarfed by what's above it.

Ribblehead Viaduct carries the Settle-Carlisle railway across upper Ribblesdale in the Yorkshire Dales on 24 arches, completed in 1875 by the Midland Railway after a workforce of over a thousand men battled harsh weather and remote conditions to build it. It remains one of the most dramatic pieces of Victorian railway engineering anywhere in Britain, and sits in one of the few places in England dark enough for the Milky Way's core to stand out against a genuinely black sky.
