Fontburn Reservoir was built in the early 20th century to supply drinking water to Northumberland, damming the Fontburn in open moorland country west of Rothbury. It's now also a stocked trout fishery and a quiet spot for walking, popular for the way its water mirrors the sky on a calm evening.
