The roe deer is one of only two deer species native to Britain and is common across farmland, woodland edge and even urban fringe habitat throughout Northumberland. Unusually among deer, roe does can delay the implantation of a fertilised embryo by several months, timing births to arrive with the spring flush of new growth.
